So, game will be called InfiniteRPG. And engine behind is named Endless Engine.
I like both so much, so I named game separately, and engine separately.

So, I’ve been working on EE/iRPG for some time now;
Changes/progress is following:

Generation of objects is now fairly good. I will have to make a bit more complex algorithm, but for now it works good enough for me to focus on other things

Combat is in progress, I’m satisfied so far. You click, and you get report. Classic.

I’ve even added simple hero screen. Nothing big.

I’ve been working also on DB lately much. Those are things which cannot be displayed on demo, unfortunately, but things like inventory system, creatures data and stuff will later be great additions.

What I would like to ask you is to give me feedback for this so far. You are encouraged to be constructive.
I have few things in mind, first of all – making all tiles clickable, so movement is quicker. But we can discuss this, yes.

Oh, DEMO URL is here!

Cheers.

Just out of curiosity to see what did the open source community produced lately, I ran some google search, and surfings, and guess what -> found bunch of stuff again.

Plus – I got surprised quite a bit. You know, in old days, there was no AJAX and JS libraries and stuff, so, basically, all games were pretty much text-based. But, nowdays, you can find all kind of cute things out there. Well, read and see yourself. I’ll stop babbling and get down to business:
Here it is:

Open source Browser games list – part III

1. Devana

Authors say: “MMO browser strategy game in which users can handle economical, diplomatic and military tasks to further increase their empire. Create alliances, battle other players with huge armies led by generals, trade resources, and more.”
So, I didn’t install this one, but jumped over to www.devana.eu and looked at GUI and checked out some screenshots. From my point of view, pretty impressive graphics for an opensource game. Plus, economical games never grow old, so, it seems you can play it on official page, and create own installation.
For project files go to sourceforge below:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=223722

2. Feudal times

Feudal Times is a world where you become a king, where you rule a small town and where you will make a great empire. Diplomacy, economy, town and army management, are the bases of every empire, how you mix them all is up to you. That’s what authors say. Also;
Feudal Times is a Persistent Browser Based Multiplayer Game (PBBMG). Persistent because the game continues even if you aren’t online. The buildings are being built, resources are being collected. You don’t have to sit hours in front of your PC to achieve good level in FT, it’s enough to visit it 2 or 3 times a day for about 15 minutes.
Sounds good, huh?
Link is http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=2470

I haven’t seen any screenshots. Plus, I don’t use SVN (you should easily find SVN path on link above), so good luck in obtaining the code, but by description – it’s worth a shot. I’d give it 4 stars just for being worked via SVN, since it’s multi developer enviroment server and that would mean, many people can work on code. Which is always good (not entirely always, but, you know what I mean)

3. GloryLands Web Based MMORPG
Or so does title say. I’ve found it on SourceForge, having nice screenshots. I’m almost challenged to install it and try it, since it seems nice, actually.
Click here to go to project home
Screenshots do look promising for a 0.5b release, but demo is currently inaccessible, so I’d recommend you download and try out yourself.
Currently I do not have any other info, but I can say – it’s worth of installation.

************************

Also, I’m affraid there aren’t many open source engines these days that are well known. Maybe there are some that are known to somebody else, but for me, plain googleing didn’t return much more than 3 new.

Still, being new ones, all three might be good choices to try out. Graphics and AJAX based GUIs these days are superb to older games.
Enjoy.

***************************************

If you find this info usefull, consider taking a survey and making your contribution for this website. It’s totally free for you, and will take only some seconds of your time, but it keeps site running. Thank you.

First; I’ve added browser games directory. If you’re a webmaster, you can now easily promote your game using bbgdev.com via directory page. I will approve each link as they come, since I’m eager to avoid potential spambot invasion.

You can visit it [here] or by using horizontal menu at the top.

Other than that, I started working on Browser games demos. So far 2 demos are avaliable, of eZRPG game and Dragon Knight engines. Well, I’m not yet ready to show URL’s since I wanted to create, let’s say, 5 game demos before I go out. But, it might be ready any time soon, so check back for some demos.

Oh, and also, I reconsidered to add ” and Resources” part to my site, since, well, slowly but steadily we have more and more resources here, right

Stay cool, guys.

Hi all,

I noticed that lot of games I have listed here have expired links, and also, you cannot see demos of those games on all links (like those that lead to SourceForge, etc).
Those browser games can be used, modified and extended, but many of you actually don’t know if they’re worth the time unless you can see demo, right? Right!

So, I thought a bit about putting up demos of each open source game we have here. Dominant Creature is on hold for some time, atlough, I do plan to enhance it’s features a bit. Chances are I’ll be able to produce another version in end of march, or even april. So before that, we might do something usefull here.

So, when and how is next big question.

First, you can vote on poll and tell me aswell, if you want to have those demos installed here. I will install browser games demos here no matter how poll goes, but if you say you want them also, it might speed up things.

When? I’ll start with one by one, and add each as I can, so, if we have 15+ browser games, it might take some time. Like, week or two.

How? Well, this is WP blog, has zillions of plugins, but none that I can use for browser game demos. So, I’ll write short post about each game i Install, and will make one page with list of demos and URL’s.

With all that, we should have clear navigation system and plenty of info.

C ya soon

Hi folks,

I thought a bit these days,

perhaps I can create something I didn’t do ever before. What if this might be very interesting… I mean, I am sure deep within, that for a nice game graphics isn’t neccessary most important feature (or, that’s what I’m saying to myself, considering I can’t do nice design ), but what if we could add a little different perspective into same map, and same game…

Well, I guess DEMO [opens in new window/tab] is in order. (keep in mind, please, this is showcase of work in progress)

I myself find it very cool. Even one of my mates at work said “wow”. Still, we’re in no business of spectacular graphics, but this might add nice (hopefully better) perspective into game here.

I would really like to hear some sincerely thoughts about this map engine. It is sure, I’ll use it. Surely, with much more enhacements.

Also, I gave it a thought…
I have surprise for all of you but will keep it as a secret till next post, as a part of holiday mood, so make sure you drop by back in few days, it might be usefull to you. I just need few days to set everything up. And do some bugfix.

As knuts said in this post, all you potential web game masters can use one very nice script (too shame I suck in JS, but luckily for you, I’m not alone in programming and creative universe), perhaps I can also contribute to community with my share. But, no hurry, like I wrote, c ya in next post…
