Hi, folks;

here it is, a new list of open source browser based games. Because of such big interest in my first list; I decided to create new category in which I will share my knowledge about other free and open source projects out there.

Since there are many many good scripts out there related to browser based games, I’ll try to pick best and present them to you.

For my sequel of successful topic “List of Open source game engines“, I have chosen to present some I only mentoined there, and some new, which weren’t listed before;

So, here we go, (as before, I’ll add short description and my personal opinion)…Make sure you read entire post :)

1. Voided Alliance Source

A PHP/MYSQL Full MMORPG, litterally, it is. It has Spell system, Monsters, NPCs, Shops, 100% Complete User System.
Author says it has over 10,000 lines of code, and many great features, and item images alone that are great.
You all might consider this to try since it also has fully done Control Panel and with this Futuristic MMORPG you can access many great features when you get the source.
The New Version (Revolution) introduced massive bug fixes and even more security!

You can go to project homepage and see further instructions where to download:

2. Solar Imperium

In Solar Imperium, you rule a solar empire.
The goal is to become and remain the most powerful empire. You can gain strength by buying forces,
and you can gain size by colonizing planets. The game is totally FREE This game was originaly a port
from the original SOLAR REALMS ELITE made by Amit Patel, a pretty popular game back in BBS era (circa 1993).
Since then, the game system evolved alot in specific fields like research map and real-time/invasion convoys.

Nothing to add, just go to homepage, get to download link and try it out, it’s good script.
[UPDATE]
: URL updated, thnx to Miki.

3. PHP RiSK

PHP RiSK is a copy of the classic board game Risk, developed in PHP and MySQL.
While it remains simple and straight forward, developers tried to include all of the official Risk rules to keep it as fun as possible.

I personally adore Risk, don’t you? Imagine how fun it can be to play it with friends over net? Darn fun, I tell ya. And if you doubt that guys made pretty neat system which actually IS playable and stable, I dare you to check :) I had it installed, and guarantee you it works.

4. Net Risk

Same as above, but even better. Has really nice graphic interface, developers put much hard work into that one.
I give 7.5/10 (but only since there is no 10 actually :P )

5. Digital Tycoon

I just tried that out few hours ago; and was surprised. Nice work, boyz there. Very nice, with lots of features. Author says:

The project is a multi-platform browser based game where you enter an online world. You can be a politician or choose form a selection of tycoons from the manufacturers to the distributors of products. All roles are linked

And for download, you go directly here ;)

6. ComicCMS

ComicCMS is a set of php scripts that can set up and manage a webcomic site, with news, without the need for mysql!
Either just the webcomicy bit or you can even manage your entire site from it. Everything you need can be done from the admin panel on your site.
ComicCMS has a small install script that will download, install and configure ComicCMS itself!

And, here you get actually full support on forums and one neat website. I mean, comic CMS can be excellent addition to some site. I like comics. Everyone likes comics books.

7. Peter’s Sports League Standings

Peter’s Sports League Standings provides a simple display of league standings (wins, losses, ties, forfeits, games behind, winning percentage,
points, runs for, runs against) and an administration interface to manage the teams and scores. It has a fine-grained permissions
system to assign users the permissions to edit scores, teams, division, or conferences. You should be able to tweak it to suit many sports.

For all you sport fans, Peter is your guy. Script is nice, and can also be great addition to your existing site, for example.

7 for today, and more is following soon…. Have a nice day ;)

Thnx to Miki for Solar Imperium Project/DL link. I’ve updated post with correct URL.

You should add OpenRPG, http://www.openrpg.fr/. Everything is in french unfortunately for us who don’t have that as a native language, but I’ve looked at the code and it’s nicely arranged using MVC and highly modular so excellent for extending.

Apparently 1.2.1 may be the last release under the GPL though, if I understood the message correctly from a Google Translated forum thread. Still, I think it could act as a great base for making browser games.

http://www.auburnflame.com/?p=idx is a dead website :( this sounded perfect too, just the thing I was looking for :(

  7. Hello Graham,
I’m Raygoe from Auburnflame, I have restored the website. I would suggest not using it, though. It is very messy code, if that doesn’t bug you then sure, use it.

By the way, thanks for including Voided Alliance on this list!
