Hi, my dear readers.

With this post I wanted to notify you all that, although I’m not writing much posts, I am working heavily on code lately.
Sometimes I am too much busy with RL work, but that’s another story, and for last 2 days I’ve been working on PHP aswell as on some JS modificatons.

Like I said, I’ll put up playable game soon.

Not to bother you much, let me quickly go through features which I added so far, and which will be included in next release of Dominant Creature RPG engine.

  • Advanced registration system
    - registration, activation mail, resend pass feature)
    - tested and working.
  • Creature creation screen
    - upon first login, you choose your creature to play with
  • Dynamic JS countdown
    - for those who like such things, all actions which take time, are now in clock-down format
  • Referral system
    - each referral gives some turns
    - number of referral clicks per day can be configured
  • Groovy template
    - I’m giving away free template you can modify to use
    - template you can currently see on demo installation located here

I’ve created myself a nice (not so nice as first one, in my opinion) template to use on game itself, and you can see it below:

dominant-evil_1207678904875.pngAs you can see, title is different. I decided to call playable game “Dominant Evil” and to create a game for all you fans of dark, ugly and powerful evil creatures known from most fantasy or DnD games.

I’m affraid, I’ll have to ask you for just a bit more patience, since I do really work on 100% and trying to complete most of the planned core features.

That means I’ll have to round up combat functions, and add bunch of skills and make that class also working completely (calculating those stuff in combat and similar).

I promise one thing; once skeleton of code is finished; I’ll make a v0.6 release, since most of you don’t need customizations I’ll made for playable game (creature names, unique skills and etc).

Then, once you have your 0.6 and I finish up playable game, we can go further with development of modules.
If I get expected help from beta testers to fix bugs, and all goes swell, I’ll then add things such as guilds, maps, quests (hardest, but I can try) etc.

after thinking about it for a while, I’ve decided to create installation for game so that all of you who would like to play can do so.

I personally think it would be marvelous for us all to have some fun along with development of a such browser based games.

Referral system and registration is almost done, also a combat is planned to be written completely with 100% functionality, so I hope you’ll agree with me, this code can be used for more than just developing.

I also was planning to add things such as tiled map and/or quest system, but all in it’s time.

There is also a database of well balanced creatures in creation progress and also plan to introduce ally system in near future.

So, be sure to come back in a week time or so and join our great adventure.

Choose your creature type amongst 20+ of very balanced one, each having unique skill, slay innocent villagers or oppose your enemies. Show to the world who is The Dominant Creature!

Hi, folks!

As currently I’m busy with RL work (that which enables me to pay bills :) ), I didn’t had time to devote myself to further development of this RPG, but still, in break, I decided to spend some time and write something about game itself, so you can see bigger picture behind this, still young, code.

You see, this is actually my 4th game.
First, in my younger days as web dev, I played around with PHAOS engine. Try to google that. Unlike my script here, that one is far more developed and is in stable-like version now. You just might like it. But, after playing with PHAOS, and despite efforts I’ve put in trying to develop some mods, I concluded it still ain’t my time to create games.

Afterwards, I reconstructed some code of Dragons Kingdom RPG. Also open source. That script is great, and I must say, my honest congrats to author. Try to google it. But, it has some serious optimization issues. Once there is more than like 15 of people online at same time, it causes high and unhealthy server load. Shame, though. One could spend great time in rewriting that code.

Then, I began working on something special, which I still do. Heroes of Might and Magic I web clone.
Well…that might just be bigger news than Dominant Creature :D LOL. But no, that’s a long story, and once it’s finished, you will probably play it.

Dominant Creature was born once I was thinking about how easy it could be (at least for me, after 9 months of HOMM clone dev) to create simple text-rpg.

But, then again, just text BBG isn’t enought today. There are milions out there.
Then I was brainstorming just a bit more, and said to myself: it can be text based, sure, but something you must offer. Something that is perhaps different than common seen in other games. Since I am no great artist, that couldn’t be graphics.

So, idea for a different (or marketing name “advanced”) PvP combat system was born.
Since I did kinda spent almost 2 months trying to reproduce as much as possible stable copy of turn based, quick combat-clone of HOMM battle engine, I can say with self-confidence that I am able to create some mechanism that has more to it than simple:

If I have bigger ATT, then I kick you.
Well, I won’t lie to you. General features won’t go far from common. Inventory, shops, some raids, PM’s.
Difference is in player roles and combat.
Idea is to create kind of PvP combat in which you can set 6 actions and defender can too, if he comes online or is online at the time. I guess, what we have here in dCreature.zip is a baby version of that, but I will work on that soon.

As for the player roles, I had in mind to produce system by which there is no more just simple “rogue/wizard/barbarian” schema, but advanced one. In which one user can be a Dragon, and second one (i.e.) Monkey, if he wishes to.
Or if properly modded, can be rockstar, or thief. Got my point?

But, like I said, it’s just a start of, I hope, potentially nice project, so with your help (as I could really use some help from my dear downloaders and readers) perhaps it can be achieved faster. Otherwise, I guess it’ll take me some time to write that properly.

But, sure thing is; I am looking forward to open beta, and counting on you guys and girls!

Hi.

As I was running out of real time last days, with being holidays and all, I just found enough time to fire up Eclipse for like 30 min and a bit of photoshop, so with combined forces something was made…

So, this time i really did it. Well, dunno about you, but I’m quite satisfied with layout. Would like to hear some feedback, sure.
I did some rearranging of GUI class, and also did some technical changes;

- some security bugs were solved out
- some checks were added (no more adding stats points over direct link)

As for you, my dear readers and developers; next release will sure be left with blank template (hope you don’t mind me using this one), and current changes in PHP will be added. No MySQL data was changed.
Also, this is only semi-release, since none of planned features were made.

Still, hope it helps with impression on young developers, since I see my refferals coming from all around internet, and SF.net downloads increasing.
